A plugin is a distinct software module which can be loaded into
an already running program; in this case, the TiK Instant Messenger client software.
Because of the excellent early designs of TiK, quite a number of plugins
were created even before this collaborative development site was set up,
by various authors. Some are available here, some from authors' sites.
To install for personal use, follow the installation instructions specific to the plugin, or for those which only include a .tcl script, place a copy in the packages subdirectory which can exist next to your tikrc file. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
AIM 2 EMailThe aim2email plugin is a combination E-Mail server and E-Mail client which forges a bridge between Instant Messages and E-Mail. This is especially helpful to those with E-Mail capable cell phones and pagers.

AP WireThe AP Wire plugin fetches headlines from the Associated Press Member Newspaper Support site. Because Referer: headers are required for the site, from the member newspaper's site, it's not automatic to go read the stories. A login is needed, which may take you back to your local newspaper's site. This plugin fetches only the headlines, as are presented by AP's own Java applet, and is especially useful for TiK users who have poor access to a solid JVM to run their applet. Headlines are clocked into the Ticker plugin (if running), and layered into the buddy list. This was an early proof-of-concept plugin updated in May 2000 to compensate for a change in URL by AP for the headlines access file.

ApacheThe Apache Monitor plugin allows Apache Web Server administrators to keep track of their webserver operational status in the TiK Buddy list, or Ticker. It hs not (yet) been checked-in here. This web server is running Apache, but the server-status handler does not appear to be available to the public, likely for privacy reasons.

HierarchyThe Hierarchy plugin is intended as a development tool for those creating new plugins for TiK. It has not yet been checked-in here.

VirChatThe VirChat plugin allows AOLers and AIM/TiK users to chat in groups, through the hosting (via toc) of a mini chatserver within TiK. It has not yet been uploaded, nor checked-in here.
